Welcome to 5-Cs Mandarin Chinese!

This beginning to intermediate (low) level course includes 16 thematic units featuring 32 real-life interactive conversation topics. It covers the 6 AP Themes, aligns with the World Language Learning Standards, emphasizing the three modes of communication skills and cultural understanding.

The course begins with the unit of Greetings, along with  an introduction of the Mandarin Chinese language, followed by an overview of its sounding system and writing system. It covers character structure, including radicals, and then moves on to learning Chinese phonetic Pinyin and the proper stroke order for character writing.

Each unit starts with Unit Objectives followed by dialogues, vocabulary study, vocabulary practice activities, grammar explanations, and cultural exploration. Formative assessments, such as quizzes on vocabulary, listening, and reading comprehension, follow each lesson, summative assessments at the end of each unit begin with “Can Do Statements”, evaluating grammar knowledge and the three modes of communication skills.

Inspired by our popular curriculum, Integrated Chinese, this course takes a story-based approach featuring  unique AI created characters. Among them are international students studying Chinese in Beijing. Throughout the course, students will follow these characters as they interact, engage in conversations, and experience daily life, making language learning authentic and engaging.
